"Nah, he’s expecting heat. I want to give him the deuce."

--- Nuke LaRouche

There are two sides to every coin. Two sides to every issue, two sides to every argument, and my Mom

always said whenever something happened between my brothers and I; ‘that it takes two’.

I know it takes two to tango, two to play catch, two to go to war, and at least two to make up and kiss.

There are also two sides to each of us. We have sides that are good and sides that may be not so good.

I know there are two sides to me. There’s "Independent Joe", but there is also "Pastor Joe".

That’s the "Joe" you know, the "Joe" you’ve been around the last four years. "Spiritual Joe", "Smiling Joe", "Sports Joe" (I love that "Joe"), "Easy to Get Along With Joe".

However if "Independent Joe" showed up at church ("Grouchy Joe", "Selfish Joe", "Arrogant Joe") "Pastor Joe" would cease to exist.

You would see another side of me. A side I try to keep in control as much as I can because I know the minute you see it in full flower you will never think of me the same again.

While I agree we should always be who we are, I also know that God wants more of us now.

Therefore the traits and character of "Independent Joe" might have been tolerable in 1986 are not

acceptable in 2005.

We act our best in church, but even then, sometimes, in small increments, that other side of us squirms out.

Hey we’re human, that’s going to happen…but it doesn’t make it right. It doesn’t make it Godly, and it doesn’t make us a proper witness for Jesus Christ.

"Independent Joe" always needs to be kept on a leash. He always needs to be locked in a basement. He needs to be poorly nourished and never encouraged. He needs to die.

"Independent Joe" is all about Joe, he’s not about building the Kingdom, he’s not about being salt and light.

Have ever asked yourself what side you might be nourishing? The "Independent You" or the part of you that is seeking a relationship with God; willing to kill the independence that is apart from God?
